Run the door without a line

A line outside is the first thing your guests experience and the last thing they mention in the group chat. Almost every door queue comes from one of four fixable problems.

Two scanners minimum

Check-in runs in a browser on any phone, so a second scanner costs nothing but a second person. One device is a single point of failure and roughly halves your throughput.

Sign both phones in before doors, not at doors. A login prompt with forty people waiting is its own delay.

Know the name-search fallback

Dead phone, cracked screen, email buried — it happens every night. The check-in page searches attendees by name, so the answer is never "step aside".

Tell your door staff this before the show. The people who know the fallback use it in ten seconds; the ones who do not create the queue.

Refunded tickets will scan red

A refund voids the QR immediately. If someone was refunded and shows up anyway, the scanner refuses them and tells you why — that is correct, not a bug.

Decide in advance who has authority to let someone in anyway, so the door is not making policy at 10pm.

Watch the count, not the clock

Check-in numbers tell you when the rush is over. When arrivals slow to a trickle, move a scanner inside — a person at the bar is worth more than a second idle scanner.
